It Takes Two dari studio Hazelight dan EA berhasil jadi pemenang dan menyabet gelar Game of the Year di ajang penghargaan The Game Awards 2021. Pendiri Hazelight dan juga game director It Takes Two, Josef Fares, naik ke atas panggung untuk menerima penghargaan.
“Saya ingin berterima kasih kepada anggota tim saya, tanpa mereka saya tak bisa apa-apa,” ujar Fares yang turut mendedikasikan penghargaan tersebut kepada anak-anaknya. “Sekali lagi terima kasih, lihat bagaimana saya bergetar, ini adalah momen yang sangat besar.”
Selain memenangkan penghargaan Game of the Year, It Takes Two juga meraih penghargaan Best Family Game dan Best Multiplayer Game. Ini adalah berita yang sangat bagus untuk kubu EA paska tuntutan dari Take Two yang melarang penggunaan nama It Takes Two.

Forza Horizon 5 menjadi judul game yang secara mengejutkan tersingkir dari kontestasi Game of the Year. Meski demikian, gondolan penghargaan Best Audio Design, Best Sports/Racing Game, dan Innovation in Accessibility, membuatnya dan It Takes Two menjadi game tersukses di TGA 2021 ini.
Mengikuti di belakang mereka adalah Deathloop, Final Fantasy XIV, dan game indie Kena: Bridge of Spirits yang sama-sama meraih dua penghargaan.
Secara keseluruhan, Square Enix dan Xbox Game Studios jadi publisher yang kebanjiran penghargaan dengan masing-masing 5 penghargaan. EA ada di belakang mereka lewat 3 penghargaan It Takes Two. Bandai Namco, Bethesda, dan Ember Lab meraih 2 penghargaan.
